Living By the Marsh
Shrouded in mist, the marsh
with all its hidden beauty,
lies protected, an Avalon
beyond the reach of mere mortals.
Silent noise, Silent Muse
a world of magic beckons,
enshrined in mysteries of Delphi
for those who dare to listen.
Spring in nature's biosphere
alchemy at its best,
transmutation and harmony
Gaia never rests.
Viridian shoots above the ground
awakening has begun,
blossoming flowers soon abound
Summer time has come.
Sparkling water in the light
old Sol is beaming down,
Blue Heron passes overhead
as Swallows swoop around.
Marsh Hawks hunt the fields for prey
majestic in their flight,
soft grey tones, becoming sky
invisible to our sight.
Long golden shadows touch the earth
the sun is lying low,
swirls of hay-bales, dot the land
like paintings by Van Gogh.
Tiny glistening spider webs
blanket the meadow land,
a shimmering mirage reflects the light
of an ancient copper sun.
Silent observers, tall trees watch
within the Marsh woodlands,
gentle deer, proud antlers high
assemble a wary stance.
Impassable bogs, like Bronte's moors
a melancholy place,
offer refuge to those in need
traversing through this space.
The silent peeper-frogs of spring
herald memories of seasons past,
beaver and muskrat prepare their dens
knowing autumn will not last.
Mist hangs heavy, on grass and weeds
a monochromatic scene,
brown heads bent toward the earth
life preserved within their seeds.
Dew-drops vanish beneath the sun
soft focus on the land,
scarlet sumacs in sharp contrast
to muted remains beyond.
Birds preparing for migration
instinct in their genes,
an unexpected destination
awaits them in the reeds.
Sorrow overcomes this time
reflections in brown and gold,
a heart that feels the close of life
witnessed secrets left untold.
Nature provides with needs in mind
moving silent in soft fallen snow,
Coyote and deer tracks follow the path
death interrupts the flow.
Hidden worlds unfold in the marsh
some are compelled to repeat,
the drowsy rhythm of primordial time
Winters call to sleep.
