Obituary of John James Maxwell MAXWELL, John James “Jack”
Peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville, on Monday, March 5th in his 82nd year. Loving husband of the late Shirley. Beloved father of John (Brenda) and Heather. Dear grandfather of Tara. Predeceased by brothers Scott and Maxford (Max) and sisters Muriel (Toots) and Ruby.

Visitation will be held at Simes Funeral Home, 48 Main St. S., Grand Valley, on Friday, March 9th from 3 p.m. until time of funeral service at 4 p.m. Cremation will follow.

Remembrances to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.

Following an illness on Tuesday, March 6th, 2012, in his 84th year.

Beloved husband for 60 years of the late Greta (nee Graham). Devoted father of Heather; Julie (Milton Young); Valerie (Jon Love); Jill (Matt Pogson); Terri (Tony Valeri); Brent (Tara) and Randy (Kelly). Loving grandfather of Jaime (Ryan); Dana (Adam Thatcher), Brandon (Melissa), Fraser (Brittany); Nathanaël, Nicolaas; Justin (Jackie), Karlie (Nick); Anthony, Luca; Jordan, Joshua, Jacob; Daniel, Christie, Emma and great-grandfather of Sophie, William, Thomas, Ava and Roenick.

The oldest lifelong resident of Grand Valley, Titch was immensely proud of his large, loving family.

The family will receive friends at Simes Funeral Home, 48 Main St. S, Grand Valley, on Friday, March 9th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Alban's-on-the-Hill Anglican Church, 28 Main St. N., Grand Valley on Saturday, March 10th at 11 a.m.

Proud grandfather of Eric, Adam, Jonathan and Justin. Great-grandfather of Brody. Greatly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brother Ron.

Loving mother of Keith, David and Jamie and step-mother of Victoria Boyer. Proud grandmother of Kaden and Keira. Loving aunt of Richard and Kristina. Sadly missed by step-father Rick. Predeceased by sister Marilyn and mother Anneliese.

SCHAFER, Penelope Ann (née Simmons) Top

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Penelope Ann Schafer on Tuesday August 23, 2011 in Victoria, BC. Penelope was a vibrant, creative and compassionate poet who was well loved by her friends. She will be remembered by many, sitting in her beautiful garden in the sun while offering the flowers to the hummingbirds and bees and sniffing her star-gazer lilies.

Penelope leaves behind a proud and meaningful legacy reflected in her poems and the hearts of her daughters. She is predeceased by her loving husband and father of her children Daan Verkerk.

Penelope is survived by her daughters, Willow and Sophie Verkerk, her sisters Jane and Deborah, her brother Joe, and four nieces. In lieu of flowers charitable donations can be made to Amnesty International and the Land Conservancy of B.C.

Mary Edith Robinson (nee Townsend) Top

passed away May 28th, 2011 at Wellington Terrace Long Term Care Home, Fergus, Ontario, in her 92nd year. Married for forty years to the late Stacey Martin Robinson (1978). Edith was the loved mother of Shirley (John Gillis), Ruth-Anne Henderson (Douglas Pipe), Larry (Kay) and Rick.

She leaves five grandchildren, Shelley Robinson, Rhonda (Brian Cozzarin) and Wayne Robinson (Kristen), Randy Gillis (Joanne) and Laurie Gillis (Sean O’Donnell ). She also leaves eight great-grandchildren. Edith was the ‘big sister’ to Ray Townsend (Barbara and the late Leone) and Jean (Muvaffak Uzumeri). She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by still-born daughter Laurie, son Ronald Stacey (Patricia), parents Wilfred and Margaret (nee Colbeck), brothers Arden (Vera) and Gordon (Audrey) and Gordon’s second wife Mirabel.

After marriage in 1938, Edith and Stacey began farming in East Luther Township, later moving to farms near Elora and Ariss, Ontario. Edith and Stacey moved into the city of Guelph, Ontario in 1961 where Stacey continued to work at his off-farm job. Edith was an avid gardener and a lover of books, especially history, biographies and travel. She had a special affinity for all animals, from toads to horses. Her retirement years were enhanced by visits to Turkey, Florida, Cuba, Jamaica and trips to both coasts of Canada with friends and relatives. Edith was a brave, strong, loyal and hard-working woman who maintained her wry sense of humour to the end of her life.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 31st, 2011 at Presbyterian Church, 2 Water St., Grand Valley, ON.

Bagnell, Margaret Allene Top

passed away February 14th, 2011 at Headwaters Health Care, Orangeville at the age of 91. Predeceased by her husband Bob. Loving mother of June and Ken Langsford, Heather and Doug Daymond, Bob and Susan Bagnell and Jim and Cheryl Bagnell. Cherished sister of Emily McLellan, Marion Olcott and Bob Hill. Proud grandmother of Kathy and Andrew, Leesa and Mike, Shara, R.B. and Maggie, Jesse, Irene, Liddy, Adie and Jesse and 21 great grandchildren. Predeceased by brothers Charlie and Ted.

Friends are invited to Trinity United Church, King St., Grand Valley for visitation Thursday February 17th at 1pm. The funeral service will follow at 2pm. Spring interment at Grand Valley Union Cemetery.

THOMSON, Vera Roslie (nee Taylor) Top

Our dear Vera Thompson
Born August 23rd, 1923 in Grand Valley, Ontario. Vera was the daughter of Annie Taylor (Buckland) and William John Taylor, beloved sister of Horace, Archie, Alvin, Bill & Arley (all deceased). She is survived by beloved sister-in-laws, Dorothy Taylor of Paris, Ontario and Nelda Schnurr of Orangeville, Ontario.

She was aunt to many nieces and nephews. Vera was a proud and faithful member of the Community of Christ Church. She was the founder of Hamilton Joybringers seniors group. A Memorial Service in honour of Vera Thomson will be held on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Community of Christ Church, 817 Upper Sherman Avenue Hamilton, Ontario L8Z3M9.

It would be appreciated that in lieu of flowers a donation in memory of Vera be made to Camp Quality (1444 Queen Street East, Suite 206 Toronto, ON M4L 1E1 1-416-406-2267, information@campquality.com a non-profit, volunteer organization that provides a free week-long camping experience and year-round support program for children with cancer and their families.

Taken suddenly on Tuesday, October 12th in his 71st year. Beloved husband of the late Marilyn. Cherished father of Robert (Jane) and Darryl.

Loving brother of Ken, Shirley and Alberta. Fondly remembered by sister-in-law Ruth and brothers-in-law Bob (Gwen) and Glenn (Susie). Sadly missed by nieces and nephews.
